Starting Your Loc Journey

Getting starter locs is an exciting step. The initial installation typically takes 2-4 hours depending on your hair length and the method used. Common methods include palm rolling, two-strand twists, interlocking, and comb coils. Your stylist will recommend the best method for your hair type.

The First Few Months

Your locs will go through several stages. In the first 3-6 months (the "baby loc" stage), they may look fuzzy and unravel between retwists. This is completely normal. Resist the urge to over-manipulate them — patience is key during this phase.

Retwist Schedule

We recommend retwisting every 4-6 weeks during the first year. Over-retwisting can thin your locs and damage your edges. Under-retwisting can cause locs to merge together. Finding the right balance is important.

Loc Maturity

Full loc maturity typically takes 18-24 months. During this time your locs will go through budding, sprouting, and finally maturation. Each stage has its own look and feel. Trust the process and enjoy each phase of your journey.
